New Delhi, Aug 3: After the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) issued a warning that cyber hackers could alter people’s ballots, voting by the British Conservative Party members to choose the next prime minister has been postponed.
According to the reports, there was no explicit threat from a hostile state, and the advise was more broad and focused on the voting process’ weaknesses.
The Conservative Party has been compelled to drop plans to permit members to change their votes for the next leader after the election as a result of the worries.
Postal ballots have not yet been sent to the approximately 160,000 party members who have been informed they may not arrive until August 11. Notably, the ballots were scheduled to start arriving on Monday.
Rishi Sunak, a former finance minister, and Liz Truss, a foreign secretary, are vying for the position of British prime minister after Boris Johnson.
Members of the Conservative Party, who will choose the new prime minister on September 5 following weeks of voting, are polling favourably for Truss.
