Ranchi, Sept 6: Jharkhand finance minister Rameshwar Oraon visited Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University and Ranchi University as chief guest during the celebrations of Karma puja on Tuesday.
The minister first visited DSPMU, where he said, “The participation of a large number of people in the festival is a message of collectiveness. Dancing, singing, worshiping is also nature worship.”
He further said that in present times the situation is deteriorating because people are not giving due respect to nature.
Guests of honour on the occasion were Dr Satyanarayan Munda, former VC of DSPMU and UC Mehta, former Executive Vice Chancellor. Also present on the occasion were DSPMU VC Dr Tapan Kumar Shandilya and Patliputra University VC Dr R K Singh along with folk artist Padmashree Mukund Nayak and Padmashree Madhu Mansoori Hasmukh, former Dean of RU Dr Karma Oraon, senior litterateur Mahadev Toppo, among others.
While addressing the students, Shandilya congratulated everyone and advised students to work to maintain the natural resources and be thankful for all that nature provides to humans.
Talking of the festival, the VC informed that the festival is celebrated in several states including Odisha, Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Assam.
Patliputra University VC Prof R K Singh stressed on environmental protection. He said, “Today, the effects of global warming are present due to changes in the environment because of deforestation. The monsoon is affected, rain is delayed and the crop is damaged. Karma festival gives us the most accurate message to maintain balance on this festival of nature.”
The minister also launched a book by assistant professor of Khortha department Dr Vinod Kumar. Furthermore, before leaving the university, the minister along with the VC planted a tree in the premises.
Meanwhile, the Tribal and Regional Language department of Ranchi University also celebrated the festival, which was joined by finance minister Rameshwar Oraon as chief guest.
Vice Chancellor Ajit Kumar Sinha, while talking to lagatar24.com said that Karma Puja has been celebrated in the university for some time now. “The celebration today, however, is inspirational as students of different languages of the TRL department performed together, giving the message of unity.”
Both universities celebrated puja which was followed by several cultural performances by the students.
