Lucknow, May 23: On the first day of the 18th session of the Uttar Pradesh state legislature, demonstrations broke out, despite Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s announcement on Monday that his government would answer to all questions and concerns voiced by elected members.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party legislators were spotted holding placards against the state administration with anti-inflation slogans and demands for justice for farmers.

Earlier, CM Yogi had told to the reporters that, “As the 18th session begins, I welcome all the members. I urge them to channelise their energy for the development of the state. Naturally, with the UP assembly being the largest, whatever happens here, it will be discussed in other parts of the country. The MLAs’ conduct here won’t just be discussed by 25 crore people (of the state) but across the country.”
But MLAs from the Samajwadi Party were seen demonstrating in the legislature shortly after the session began.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Sidharth Nath Singh slammed the party and Akhilesh Yadav, “Akhilesh Yadav never respected constitutional position and same being reflected by his MLAs in UP assembly today . Disturbing Governor’s speech is disrespect to the constitutional Head of the State (sic),” he tweeted.
Soon after the assembly elections in March, Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Lok Sabha. He had run for his first state election from Mainpuri, the family stronghold. Soon after, he was elected as the opposition’s leader. His party’s strength in the legislature has likewise increased dramatically since the last election.
He met Telangana Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao, commonly known by his initials KCR, over the weekend, who has been vociferous in his criticism of the BJP.
