New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the BJP’s commanding performance in the recent bypolls, crediting it to the party’s governance and welfare initiatives. As of Saturday, the BJP had won two seats and was leading in four, with ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) ahead in one.
Adityanath’s Slogan Sparks Debate
Reiterating his campaign slogans, “Batenge toh katenge” and “Ek hain toh safe hain,” Adityanath highlighted the BJP’s stronghold and public support. He described the results as a testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the party’s policies.
“The BJP-NDA’s victory is a reflection of the people’s unwavering faith in our double-engine government’s governance and development,” he tweeted.
However, the slogan faced backlash, with opposition leaders like Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge accusing Adityanath of promoting division.
BJP’s Performance in Key Constituencies
•Ghaziabad: BJP’s Sanjeev Sharma defeated SP’s Singh Raj Jatav by 69,351 votes.
•Khair: Surender Diler secured a win over SP’s Charu Kain by 38,393 votes.
•Phulpur: BJP’s Deepak Patel led by 11,013 votes against SP’s Mohd Mujtaba Siddiqui.
•Katehari: Dharmraj Nishad maintained a lead of 15,410 votes over SP’s Shobawati Verma.

•Meerapur: RLD candidate Mithilesh Pal was ahead by 30,426 votes over SP’s Sumbul Rana.
Significance of the Bypolls
The bypolls, the first since the Lok Sabha elections, were conducted after eight MLAs vacated their seats to join the Lower House. In Sisamau, a bypoll was held following the disqualification of SP legislator Irfan Solanki after his criminal conviction.
Opposition’s Struggle and Alliances
The Samajwadi Party secured Sisamau and led in Karhal but faced a tough fight in other constituencies. The RLD, a former SP ally, switched sides and joined the BJP-led NDA, further strengthening the ruling coalition.
The Congress, opting out of the contest, extended support to the SP, while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and AIMIM fielded candidates across multiple seats.
Current Assembly Strength
The Uttar Pradesh Assembly now comprises 251 BJP MLAs and 105 from the SP. BJP allies, including RLD and Apna Dal, hold additional seats, while Congress and BSP maintain minimal representation.
