Lucknow, Jan 12: Uttar Pradesh Environment Minister Dara Singh Chauhan offered his resignation from Yogi Adityanath’s Cabinet on Wednesday, in yet another major blow for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Chauhan accused the BJP administration of abandoning Dalits, OBCs, farmers, and unemployed youth as he resigned.

Chauhan’s resignation comes a day after Swami Prasad Maurya, another UP Cabinet Minister, quit on Tuesday.

The decision has been made after MLA Avtar Singh Bhadana abandoned the BJP and joined Jayant Chaudhary’s Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in Delhi on Wednesday, giving the party a major boost ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Prior to the 2017 UP elections, Bhadana had joined the saffron unit. He is regarded as a powerful figure in the Gurjar community. He had won the Meerut-Mawana Lok Sabha seat in 1999 on a Congress ticket.
