Daltonganj, June 12: After the recent clash between the police and protestors over the remarks about the Prophet Mohammad by the two faces of the BJP, the Garhwa SP in a statement has said that the border states of the district, namely UP and Chhattisgarh pose no threat to the communal harmony in Garhwa.

Stating this, the Garhwa district superintendent of Police Anjani Kumar Jha said, “We are yet to receive information of anything untoward happening in Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh which is next to the border of the Garhwa district.”

“Similarly, UP’s Sonbhadra district that shares its borders with Garhwa, continues to be calm and as such Garhwa has no issue from this part of UP,” he added.

SP Jha further added, “However, we are very closely monitoring digital platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc and are on a look out for any threat to public harmony.”

Sources have also said the time is closing down for the selection of pramukh, chairman and vice chairman of Zila Parishad, and that rural folks are more engrossed in it.

Notably, Garhwa town has a fairly large number of Muslim residents, many of whom are quite well off, however, fanaticism is yet to overtake reason here.

Garhwa district has two assembly seats, one of which is held by JMM MLA Mithilesh Thakur while the other has BJP MLA Bhanu Pratap Shahi as a representative.

Garhwa district has a tight rope walk for the two political parties wherein each side understands that fracturing harmony will be politically destructive for each of the two, sources have claimed.
