New Delhi, Dec 24: Due to the increasing number of Omicron cases in various states across the country, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to impose a night curfew in the state beginning on Christmas Day, December 25.

The state will impose a night curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. until further notice. It is worth noting that India’s Omicron case tally has surpassed 350 and is expected to rise due to the upcoming festive season. It has also limited the number of guests permitted at weddings to 200. Covid-19 protocols must be followed at all times at events, according to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

According to Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday, India recorded 122 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in a 24-hour period, the highest so far, bringing the country’s total to 358.

Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday imposed a night curfew from 11 am to 5 pm across the state, amid fears of surge in cases of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19 across the country.

On Thursday, the Allahabad High Court also requested the Election Commission of India to immediately postpone the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh for 1-2 months. The court also urged Prime Minister and the EC to immediately ban rallies and public meetings of political parties in the state.
