Lucknow, Jan 31: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday will campaign door to door in Noida for Pankhuri Pathak, the party’s candidate. Since the Election Commission outlawed rallies, this will be her first physical campaign.
The Congress has allocated 40% of the seats to women and is seeking votes for the empowerment of a more equal gender in the state. The party presented its fourth list of 61 candidates on Sunday, including 24 women, for the seven-phase Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The party has given tickets to 127 women in the state so far. There are 50 women on the first list of 125 candidates, 16 women on the second list of 41 candidates, and 37 women on the third list of 89 candidates.
Candidates from Rae Bareli and Amethi are on the fourth list. Surender Vikram Singh has been selected from Harchandpur, while Sudha Dwivedi has been selected from Sareni. Rae Bareli has both seats. Mohd Fateh Bahadur is being fielded in Amethi from Gauriganj.
Kuldeep Kumar Singh of Hathras, Kuldeep Pandey of Kasganj, Dr Vinay Narayan Singh of Kishni (SC), and Shikha Pandey of Bisalpur are the other contenders in the race.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress General Secretary, said during the announcement of the first list that the party is following through on its promise to give 40 percent of tickets to women candidates.
She stated in the initial list that ladies were chosen from a variety of backgrounds. Mother of Unnao Rape Survivor; Asha Worker Poonam Pandey; Journalist Nida Ahmed; and social activist Sadaf Jafar from Lucknow who was at the forefront of anti-CAA protests.
