Meerut: In a chilling crime from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a woman and her lover were arrested for strangling her husband in his sleep and then releasing a venomous snake on his bed to stage the murder as a snakebite death. The victim, Amit Kashyap alias Mikki, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Sunday morning.
Live viper found in room, but autopsy revealed the truth
While Amit was discovered with multiple snakebites and a live viper in the room, his postmortem report revealed asphyxiation as the actual cause of death. This contradiction led to a full-scale police investigation, which eventually uncovered a premeditated murder plot.
Illicit relationship and a deadly plan
According to Meerut SSP Vipin Tada, the accused, Ravita and her lover Amardeep, had been in a secret relationship for over a year. Amardeep worked as a labourer alongside Amit and often visited their home. When Amit discovered the affair, tensions escalated, prompting the two to plan his murder.
Snake bought for ₹1,000, murder staged using YouTube research
As per SP (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Amardeep purchased a viper from a local snake charmer in Mahmoodpur Sikheda village for ₹1,000. On the night of the crime, the couple waited for Amit to fall asleep, then strangled him, and placed the snake beneath his body to make it look like a fatal snakebite.
“After killing him, they relied on Google and YouTube to research how to mask the murder as a natural snakebite,” said a senior police official.
Police cracked the case after autopsy findings contradicted scene evidence
The multiple snakebites observed postmortem did not align with the asphyxiation cause of death, which exposed the staged crime. Both accused have been arrested and charged with murder and criminal conspiracy.
