Ranchi, Aug 25: The Usha Martin University (UMU) in Ranchi has been ranked the top private university in Jharkhand by an all-India survey done by Dialogue India magazine. Notably, UMU shares the rank with BIT Mesra.
Other universities that made it to the list include Arka Jain University, Amity University, ICFAI University, Jharkhand Rai University, and AISECT University, which are among the top 5 ranked universities among others. Ranked based on infrastructure, courses, innovation and research, faculty input and placements, the universities were both government and those that are deemed private.
UMU has also been ranked seventh in the east and northeast zone among ten universities. These include BIT, KIT, Shiksh O Ansandhan, Sikkim Manipal University, Xavier University, and Arka Jain University among others.
This is the second time within a month that the university has been ranked number one by magazines.
Earlier, UMU was ranked top among universities in Jharkhand along with the ICFAI University by an all-India survey done by Open magazine. These were the only two universities from Jharkhand that had made it to the said list.
Then the university was ranked on the basis of legacy, accreditation process, research and academic brilliance, infrastructure, campus facilities, personality development, co-curricular activities, placements and career growth, the universities were marked out of a score of 1000.
Notably, Usha Martin University was established vide Usha Martin University (UMU), Jharkhand Act 2012. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission as a self-financing Private University empowered to award certificates, diplomas and degrees. In addition, professional programmes such as B Pharmacy and LLB, offered by UMU, are recognized by national regulating bodies such as Pharmacy Council of India and Bar Council of India, respectively. The UMU is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
The University offers a wide range of professional programmes at UG and PG levels apart from Ph. D in Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science, Education, English, Management, Mathematics and Physics following UGC guidelines to carry its mandate of providing inclusive quality higher education in different fields for sustainable development of the society and be in conformity with the priorities of the Ministry of Education, Government of Jharkhand. The University proposes to add PhD programmes in Pharmacy, Journalism and Mass Communication and Law as well as BSc (Nursing), ANM and GNM in the 2021 academic session subject to approval by the State Nursing Council.
