Ramgarh: The 5-day programme on ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ concluded in Ramgarh Cantt on Thursday. Army officers and jawans bid adieu to the 1971 war flame with full respect at the Sikh regimental centre (SRC) war memorial. The flame left patriotic messages in Ramgarh and left for Gaya in Bihar.
SRC commandent M Sri Kumar SC said, “It was a great moment and when we welcomed the victory flame in Ramgarh Cantt, everyone was full of patriotism. Ramgarh Cantt commenced the 5-day celebration of the ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1971 war, with the arrival of the victory flame on 14 Nov.”
The nationwide celebrations began on December 16, 2020 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering a tribute at the National Memorial in New Delhi and setting out four victory flames in four directions.
These victory flames are being carried throughout the length and breadth of the country including villages of Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra awardees of the 1971 war. Soil from the villages of these gallant warriors and from areas where major battles were fought in 1971 is being brought to the National War memorial.
“The victory flame was driven around Ramgarh city led by the cycling team before it left for Gaya today,” said Deputy Commandant SRC, Kumar Ranvijay.
Veterans hailing from Ramgarh and nearby places had also been invited to participate in the victory celebration to share their experiences about the saga of valour and sacrifice.
The other events during celebrations included military band display at the war memorial and weapons display. On November 14 victory flame arrived at 10:30 a.m., and a band display was also held.
The victory march with the cycling team around Ramgarh City concluded on Nov. 16 from 10:30 a.m.
Functions were held at different places of Ramgarh town, felicitation of stations of 1971 war veterans and Veer Naris organised on November 17 from 11:30 a.m. wreath laying and flagging of victory flame to Gaya on 18 November 9:30 a.m.
