Washington D.C.: Indian-origin entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has stepped down from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), just hours after Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. Ramaswamy, who was selected by Trump to co-lead DOGE alongside billionaire Elon Musk, announced his resignation on Sunday, citing plans to run for the governor of Ohio.
Ramaswamy, 39, who gained prominence during his Republican presidential campaign, shared his decision in a post on X:
“It was my honor to help support the creation of DOGE. I’m confident that Elon & team will succeed in streamlining government. I’ll have more to say very soon about my future plans in Ohio. Most importantly, we’re all-in to help President Trump make America great again.”
Ramaswamy’s Role in DOGE
Ramaswamy played a pivotal role in establishing DOGE, a Trump administration initiative aimed at streamlining federal government operations. The government efficiency advisory group praised his contributions, stating:
“He intends to run for elected office soon, which requires him to remain outside of DOGE based on the structure announced today. We thank him immensely for his contributions over the last two months.”
Future Political Aspirations
Reports suggest that Ramaswamy, a Cincinnati native born to Indian parents, plans to run for governor of Ohio. The Washington Post revealed that Ramaswamy has already drafted a statement regarding his candidacy and intends to announce his decision soon. If successful, he would replace Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who is restricted by term limits. The Ohio gubernatorial election is slated for November 2026.
Elon Musk Takes Charge
With Ramaswamy’s departure, Elon Musk will take full leadership of DOGE. The initiative is a key part of President Trump’s agenda to reform and streamline federal government operations.
Ramaswamy’s Background
A Harvard and Yale alumnus, Ramaswamy is a successful entrepreneur who made millions in hedge funds and pharmaceutical ventures. He remains a close ally of President Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
