Ranchi, Nov.14: Over 600 people from Korwa tribe, a particularly vulnerable tribe group (PVTG) of the state which is on the verge of extinction, today laid siege over Ranka block office pointing out loopholes in public distribution of the state.

The PVGT, who were from 15 villages of the said block and were led by Ram Pravesh Korwa and Ram Nath Korwe, were angry as they had not got food grains the government had provided for them under different welfare schemes.

They alleged corruption in the Dakiya Scheme saying food grains provided for them are sold in black market. They were also heard saying that they did not get any food grains in September under Dakiya scheme and in October they got only 23 kg of 35kg food grains.

A legal awareness camp was being organized by the District Legal Service Authority in the block office premises. It got disturbed due to the agitation, which ended after the block development officer met them and assured proper action. The BDO also ordered for delivery of due food grain and sought apology.

Those who played a major role during the agitation included Rukmini Kunwar, Parwati Devi, Shyamdev Korwa besides coordinator of NCDHR-DAA Mihtilesh Kumar and James Herenz, who is associated with Right to Food.

It is worth mentioning that there are as many as 1322 ration card holders. Every month 462.70 quintal food grains are provided to them by the state government.
