Ranchi, Feb.12: Jharkhand police arrested as many as nine Maoists involved in the attack on former BJP MLA Gurucharan Nayak at Jhilrua High School in Chakradharpur in West Singhbhum on January 4. In the attack, two bodyguards of Nayak were killed and their firearms were looted.

As many as three country-made carbines and 42 rounds of ammunition were recovered from their possession. Apart from this, naxal literature, banners, posters and a motorbike and a mobile phone were also recovered.

The investigation suggested that they planned sports and called Nayak as chief guests to give rewards to carry out their attack plan. They had sprayed chili powder in the eyes of three bodyguards of the former MLA and then attacked the MLA, who somehow managed to escape.
