New Delhi, Dec 19: External affairs minister S Jaishankar reacted to the Opposition’s walkout in the Rajya Sabha on Monday after the Chair denied requests for a debate on Chinese incursions on the frontier. He said neither direct nor indirect criticism of India’s jawans should be made.
“Our soldiers are standing at a height of 13,000 feet in Yangtse and guarding our border. They should be respected and appreciated,” he said while speaking in Lok Sabha during the Winter Session of Parliament.
All nine notifications under Rule 267 were rejected by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday because they were out of order.
The minister responded to Congressman Rahul Gandhi’s statement regarding the recent clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, by saying that our soldiers should not be referred to as ‘pitais.’
“We have no problem with political criticism but we should not disrespect our jawans. I have heard that my own understanding needs to be deepened. When I see who is giving the advice I can only bow and respect. The word ‘pitai’ should not be used for our jawans,” he hit out at Rahul Gandhi without naming him.
Earlier on Friday, Rahul Gandhi said that the Foreign Minister should deepen his grasp of the ongoing dispute between India and China.

“We should understand what is happening. The External Affairs Minister keeps giving statements, but he should deepen his understanding,” he had said at a press conference in Jaipur on Friday.
He also claimed that the neighbouring country is preparing for war and alleged that the government is hiding and not accepting it.
