Ranchi, Nov 13: Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi on Sunday announced the programme for the inauguration of Dr Kumar Suresh Singh Tribal Resource Centre on November 16 at XISS. The event is to be graced by Chief Minister Hemant Soren as Chief Guest along with Guest of Honour Dr Rameshwar Oraon, Finance Minister, GoJ, and Dr Mahua Maji, MP, Rajya Sabha. The family of Dr Singh, including his wife Bimleshwari Devi and his son Dhruv Singh, will also be present during the event.
Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur, Director, XISS, during the conference, said, “Today we have gathered here as an effort to give recognition to Dr Kumar Suresh Singh for his contribution to academics, policy-making and law-making. The main aim of this resource centre is to keep his memories alive, in not just in books but also in collections such as rare manuscripts.”
Dr Amar E Tigga, Dean Academics, XISS, said, “It’s in XISS’s heart to work for the tribal society which is at par with the vision of our founding fathers. By this resource centre, we want XISS to become a knowledge centre for the entire world.”
Dr Anant Kumar, Head of the Rural Management Programme, XISS, described Dr Kumar Suresh Singh not just as a scholar but as an institute himself. “This is not only a tribal centre but a resource to highlight and promote his work”, he said.
The centre will be open for use as a research centre by scholars from all over the world through membership. Dr Kujur also mentioned that the resource centre will be a vital resource for tribal entrepreneurship as Dr Kumar Suresh Singh’s insights on tribal economy, tribal agriculture and livelihood are inspirational for the modern days as well.
