Dhanbad, June 1: The new course of Yoga for 1st MBBS professional students is going to start on June 12 in all the six medical colleges in the state.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has introduced the new course of Yoga in the curriculum for undergraduate students from academic sessions 2021-22. Under this new foundation course, 1st MBBS professional would be imparted Yoga training for one hour every day for 10 days from June 12 to June 21.
A senior official of the state health department’s medical education wing said that the new course is mandatory for students of the 2021-22 academic session but other students can also participate in this training course.
Medical colleges of the state have made elaborate arrangements in their institution for launching the new course for their students.
Meanwhile, Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka is struggling to find a trained yoga instructor to impart training during the 10-day session. PJMCH principal Dr Arun Kumar said that he has yet to get a trained person to start the new course. “ Without a teacher, how can I start the course. However, I am trying to get one,” he said.
Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Dr Shailendra Kumar when contacted said that he has started preparation for the new course and it would begin on the scheduled date. “Preparation is on,” he said.
Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad has made elaborate arrangements for it. “For smooth implementation of the new course, a committee under Dr Krishana Kumari, head of the department of physiology, has been constituted. Uma Shankar Singh, a Yoga trainer of Patanjali Yog Sansthan, will impart training to students,” said Dr Jyoti Ranjan Prasad, SNMMCH principal.
Dr DP Bhushan, Dr Anil Kumar, Dr Leena Singh, Dr Suchima Saha, Dr Raj Kumar Prasad, Dr Sarita Choudhary, Dr Chandrashekhar Suman, Dr Akash Chandra, Dr Phani Bhushan Singh, Dr Rishav Kumar Rana, Dr Sumanand Jha, Dr Sangit Gupta comprise of the 13-member committee set up to implement the course.
The training course will start daily at 6 am and end at 7 am. Officials said that though in the first MMBS professional only 50 students are enrolled, the arrangement has been made to accommodate 125 to 130 students.
Since the course has been implemented on the directive of the NMC, attendance of students would be taken and a logbook would be maintained.
Notably, before adopting the course in the 2021-22 academic session, SNMMCH had launched a similar training programme for its students under Dr Veenit Tigga and other faculty members in 2019 and later in 2021.
