Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing a state-level workshop on Atmanirbhar Bharat-Swadeshi Sankalp, said that the idea of self-reliance is no longer limited to slogans or khadi clothing but has been expanded under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
Swadeshi Beyond Slogans
Yogi Adityanath emphasized that products made in India — built with the sweat of Indian workers and the energy and skills of Indian youth — truly represent the essence of swadeshi. He highlighted that India is now producing everything from small items to massive cargo ships, pontoon bridges, and even airplanes, showcasing the strength of the Make in India initiative.
Division in Society Criticized
He also criticized those who, according to him, continue to divide society on the basis of caste, region, and language, calling it a continuation of a “foreign mindset.” He said such groups raise doubts about the Swadeshi movement and attempt to create discord among people.
Population Decline of Hindus Over Centuries
Citing historical figures, Yogi said that when Islamic invaders began attacking India, the Hindu population was about 60 crore until around the year 1100. However, by the time India gained independence in 1947, this number had dropped to 30 crore. He questioned why the population declined over 800-900 years, arguing that instead of increasing, it halved.
Causes Behind the Decline
The Chief Minister attributed this decline to mass killings during invasions, hunger, disease, and exploitation under foreign rule. He added that slavery under invaders was marked by atrocities and economic decline, including a reduction in agricultural production. Yogi concluded by warning that even today attempts are being made to divide society, which must be resisted with unity and a focus on self-reliance.
