Ranchi, Dec.17: A day after the Jharkhand High Court scrapped the 2021 recruitment policy formulated by the Hemant Soren government terming it unconstitutional, students hit the roads of the capital city demanding a proper recruitment policy to ensure proper job opportunities for youths of the state.
It was getting to around 1.30 pm when around 500 students turned up at the Albert Ekka Chowk and burnt the effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and State Education Minister Jagaranth Mahto. They also shouted slogans like “Hemant Soren Murdabad” and “Jagaranth Mahto Murdabad.”
“Hemant Soren government is intentionally not giving jobs to the youths as promised during the election otherwise it must have a proper policy,” Brajesh Kumar, a youth from Harmu Housing Colony said.
Devendra Kumar, a youth from Lowadih in Namkum, echoed the same. “How come the state government debarred those not having matriculation and an intermediate degree from Jharkhand schools as it is known to all there are many from Jharkhand who are in army jobs and their children pursued education outside the state,” questioned Kumar expressing his anguish toward the government’s attitude of befooling the unemployed youth.
Due to the agitation, the vehicular movement on Main Road remained disturbed and school buses were noticed stuck in traffic jams. The situation became so bad that the police had to come to control the agitating students and ensure proper vehicular movement.
As students agitated, those who are close to CM Soren hinted that they are also not in favour of pursuing a legal battle in the matter.
“We are not in favour of pursuing the legal battle but at the same time, we also want to protect the spirit of the 2021 recruitment policy Hemant Soren brought for the benefit of local candidates. After the CM returns, we will discuss the matter and find out a proper solution,” a close aide of the CM said, requesting anonymity.
Prabhakar, a government-accredited Jharkhand Andolankari, echoed the same feeling. “A short interview of candidates will help the government to ascertain who are locals and who are outsiders. Apart from this, it will also help ensure whether the candidate has an idea of local custom or not,” he said.
