Nashik: In a tragic incident, two Agniveers were killed when a shell from an Indian field gun exploded during a firing practice session at the Artillery Centre in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, police confirmed on Friday.

The accident took place on Thursday afternoon at the Nashik Road Artillery Centre during a routine training exercise. The deceased, identified as Gunner Gohil Vishvarajsinh and Gunner Saikat, were part of a team conducting firing drills when one of the shells detonated unexpectedly.

Both Agniveers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the Military Hospital (MH) in Deolali. Despite immediate medical attention, they were declared dead on arrival, an official stated.

Following the incident, a case of accidental death has been filed at the Deolali Camp police station based on a complaint by Havildar Ajit Kumar. Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the explosion.
