46 NDRF teams deploys in Odisha, WB and Andhra in wake of Cyclone Jawad

New Delhi, Dec 3: In view of Cyclone Jawad, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed forty-six teams in West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

“A total of 46 NDRF teams have been sent to Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh and are prepositioned there. IDS is on alert if the situation arises to airlift any of the teams. 18 more teams are on standby,” said Atul Karwal DG NDRF.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department on Friday informed that the deep depression over west-central adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal will intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during the next 12 hours and will reach north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast by Saturday morning.

“Odisha government also plans to deploy 266 teams including NDFR, State Fire Services and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) in coastal districts in view of implementing cyclonic situation,” said Pradeep Kumar, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).

On Thursday, PM Modi also chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness of States and Central Ministers and concerned agencies to deal with the situation.

Notably, Cyclone Jawad is expected to reach the coast of north Andhra Pradesh, Odisha around the morning of Saturday, December 4, with the wind speed ranging up to 100 kmph.
