Ranchi, June 23: Five days after the murders of Sweta Singh, 17, and Praveen Singh, 14, at their home in the Janak Nagar neighbourhood of the Pandra police station in the capital city of Jharkhand, police are still groping in the dark over the motive behind the gruesome murder.

Although a police official claimed that the primary inquiry pointed out that “the girl getting into a relationship with a new boy after shunning the old one” might be a cause, there has been no solid proof to support this in the court. Accordingly, the police official stated that they are seeking witnesses and evidence in order to draw a conclusion.

A scientific study is going on, according to another police source. “One boy has been detained thus far, and his assistance is being sought in order to reach a suitable conclusion,” the police official said, adding that “the deceased girl’s mobile information is being obtained to discover who was in her touch and for how many days.”

“The accused used a large object “Moosal” and a sharp edged weapon to commit the crime,” the police official claimed, which came to light during the course of the inquiry. The mother of two, Chanda Singh (40), who was hurt in the incident and is currently under treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), has recognised one of the suspects, Rohan Kumar, and has told the police that he was accompanied by two persons. Two more people are being sought by the police.

Prakash Soy, the Dy SP of Kotwali, declined to comment on the subject. The investigation is nearing its conclusion, and we will soon be able to tell the media something specific. “We won’t be able to make any definitive statements about the case until the inquiry is over,” Soy added.
Notably, three young people broke into the Singh family’s home on June 18 in the early hours as Chanda was cleaning up before she left for the temple. Sweta was the first to be killed, followed by her brother, who had come to her aid. Once they knew she had passed away, they turned on Singh and fled the house.

They locked the house from the inside and the outside, and fled away by leaping off the roof. The deceased’s maternal grandpa, who lived just about 500 metres away, was alerted of the incident when neighbours spotted blood pouring out of the house and felt the danger. Later, the deceased’s father who lives and works outside of India was also informed.
