Dumka, April 13: The sixth convocation ceremony of the Sidho Kanho Murmu University (SKMU) witnessed large scale chaos on Wednesday.
On one hand, the pass-out students and scholars were handed over other degrees and medals by the Governor cum chancellor of the universities while on the other, invitees including public representatives boycotted the event for not finding their seats.
Governor Ramesh Bais who was the chief guest of the occasion congratulated the students having passed out from different undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the SKMU for their future careers while addressing the sixth convocation ceremony of the SKM University.
Bais who handed over degrees to a few toppers of different faculties and PhD scholars to mark the event said that the prevailing smile and enthusiasm on their faces were only glorifying the dignity of the event.
“The convocation ceremony is an important event for the students when they get results of the years of their hard labour and efforts,” the Governor said adding that receiving degrees in higher education courses was definitely a matter of pride and achievement for them.
“I would like to bless you all to start your new journey in terms of giving shape to your dreams and thoughts from, to begin with, the new chapter of your lives, ” the governor added.
Necessitating the need of achieving excellence which he said was a prerequisite in the prevailing challenges of rough competition, Governor said that from now onwards the entire world would emerge to be an open library for the pass-outs to explore new opportunities.
“Our country is the youngest in the world by this time and the status can reap the benefits only by ensuring knowledge-based skills to the youths to which the higher education institutions had a major role to play,” Governor said pinning his hope on the SKM University for encouraging maximum students to avail higher education facilities for situating in a tribal-dominated area.
The speaker of the state assembly Ravindra Nath Mahto also addressed the audience as the vice-chancellor Dona Jharia Minj delivered the welcome speech.
Altogether 317 students who had registered their names received their degrees in the convocation ceremony.
Meanwhile, large scale chaos at the SKM University headquarters in Dighi was witnessed, as there were instances of scholars being handed over degrees of other ones by the Governor with students later witnessed wandering on the campus to replace them with their original ones were handed over to others.
“I am the topper in Sanskrit whereas the degree been handed over to me by the Governor mentions the name of Fathima Khatun otherwise being the topper in Urdu,” Gautam Bhardwaj rued who along with dozens of students were seen wandering in the university campus to get their original degrees and medals.
Later, Dumka BJP MP Sunil Soren called on the Governor at Dumka based Rajbhawan and complained against the SKMU vice-chancellor Sona Jharia Minj about the humiliation he had to undergo after not finding his seat at the convocation venue despite being invited.
“The governor has assured that suitable action will be taken against the responsible persons after a probe to be conducted by the Rajbhawan,” Soren said.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included the Santhal Pargana Commissioner Chandramohan Prasad Kashyap, DIG Sudarshan Mandal apart from university officials, teachers and students.
