Jamshedpur, June 17: Several parts of the state including Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Bokaro and Dhanbad today experienced pre-monsoon showers which were accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places.
The showers brought respite from the muggy condition and it brought down the maximum temperature below by several degrees. It resulted in water logging in several low-lying areas across several districts disrupting traffic movement.
Weathermen said the southwest monsoon is not far away and that they were expecting its onset in Jharkhand in another two to three days.
According to a bulletin issued by the IMD, southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Sub- Himalayan West Bengal and some more parts of Bihar today.
The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) was today passing through Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Khandwa, Gondia, Durg, Bhawanipatna, Kalingapatnam and Motihari (in Bihar).
The bulletin further said that conditions are favourable for further advancement of monsoon into some more parts of Madhya Pradesh, remaining parts of Vidarbha, Andhra Pradesh and west-central northwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and some more parts of Bihar during next three days.
IMD statistics revealed that light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms occurred at a few places while heavy rain also occurred at one or two places over the state during the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall recorded was 85.5 mm at Pakur.
The highest maximum temperature 36.2°C was recorded at Daltonganj while the lowest minimum temperature 24.5°C was recorded at Ranchi.
Today’s synoptic features suggested that the trough at mean sea level from Haryana to Nagaland now runs from northwest Uttar Pradesh to Manipur across Bihar, SubHimalayan West Bengal and Assam.
A north-south trough was also running from Northeast Bihar to interior Odisha at 3.1 Km above mean sea level.
The IMD forecast suggested light to moderate rain in several places. It also issued an alert of heavy rain in some isolated pockets of the state during the next 72- hours.
