Dhanbad, June 18: The court of Principal District and Session Judge Ram Sharma today admitted the revision petition of sedition charge against film actress and producer Kangana Ranaut for hearing.

Judge Ram Sharma while hearing the revision petition on Saturday demanded the record of a lower court order in the case.

The complainant’s lawyer HN Singh said that after hearing the case, the court admitted the revision petition of his client and sought a record of a lower court order for further hearing.

The complainant Ishar Ahmed alias Bihari, a resident of Pandarpal (Wasseypur), had filed a revision petition in the court of the principal district and session judge after the lower court dismissed his petition of trialling a sedition charge against Kangana Ranaut.

As per the petition filed by Ishraar, Kangana Ranaut in one of her interviews said that India got its independence in ‘Bheekh’ (charity) in 1947. In fact, the country got real independence in 2014 when the Narendra Modi-led government was formed at the Centre.

Ishar Ahmed had filed the petition in court against Kangana Ranaut on November 17, 2021, alleging that her statement has insulted the martyrs of the freedom struggle and is a matter of sedition. He also accused Ranaut of lowering the prestige of India. However, the lower court of first-class judicial magistrate Sidhant Tigga had on May 11, 2022, dismissed the petition.
