Mumbai, July 4: NCP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has been appointed as the Leader of opposition in the state assembly on Monday.
Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, won the floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly earlier in the day with the support of his ally, the BJP. The floor test cemented his status as the 20th chief minister of Maharashtra and the founder of the Balasaheb Thackeray-inspired “genuine Shiv Sena.”
According to Speaker Rahul Narvekar, Pawar’s name was presented by NCP legislative party leader Jayant Patil and approved by the assembly as NCP became the only major opposition party with 288 members.
