Jharkhand: CBI to expedite work of witness examination in cases involving MPs, MLAs

Ranchi, Oct 14: The CBI will expedite the work of examination of witnesses in the court in cases involving MPs and MLAs after Puja vacation.

The CBI counsel made a submission to this effect before the division bench of Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice S N Prasad during hearing of PIL taking speedy disposal of cases involving legislators and parliamentarians.

After the submission by CBI counsel, the court asked to come prepared with a status report on October 30.

Earlier, the affidavit was filed in the Jharkhand High Court on behalf of the CBI wherein, it has been told by the CBI that out of total 18 cases in the CBI courts related to MLAs/ MPs, two cases have been executed. 16 cases are still pending.

In 2022, two cases have been executed from the special CBI court of Ranchi. Of these, one case related to the disproportionate assets of Bandhu Tirkey (RC 5A/2010) was executed by a special CBI court on April 28, 2022.

Similarly, the fodder scam (RC 47 A/ 96) involving Lalu Prasad was executed on 15 February 15, 2022.
