Dhanbad, Oct 27: The Eastern India Zonal Ophthalmological Congress (EIZOC) will screen the eyes of Jharkhand school kids to assess the impact of Covid-19.

Besides this, pollution in the coal belt has also aggravated eye problems and other diseases which require immediate attention and treatment.

Dr BN Gupta, new president of EIZOC

“So, EIZOC has resolved to launch an awareness campaign and screening of school kids’ eyes across the state. Since I belong to Dhanbad, it would kick start from coal belt soon,“ said Dr BN Gupta to media persons. The renowned ophthalmologist of the country Dr Gupta was recently elected the president of EIZOC at a Patna conference.

“I have a tenure of one year as president of the east zone association. So, I have decided to focus on protecting school kids from eye ailments and promoting the latest tools for treatment in the region. There is no doubt that the standard of ophthalmological treatment in Jharkhand as well as in the eastern states has improved but there is still a lot of scope for more improvement in this field,” he said.

Dr Gupta said that CME programmes would be held at regular intervals for ophthalmologists to share their experience in advanced eye treatment and techniques. He said he is committed to providing proper information to coal belt denizens regarding the programmes of EIZOC  so that they could get benefit from it.
