Elephant death case: Jharkhand HC orders PTR DFO, ACCF to appear

Ranchi, Dec. 9: Jharkhand High Court on Friday directed for personal appearance of Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) DFO and ACCF taking suo moto cognizance in the matter of elephant death in the protected forest.

The development took place in the division of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice SN Prasad. The court after giving the direction of deferred hearing in the matter till December 15.

As many as 10 elephants and 55 people have died across Jharkhand in the man-animal conflict in 2022. There are reports suggesting the reasons behind the death of elephants in reserve forests remained electrocution, falling from hillocks and bullet injuries among others.

Notably, Senior Legislature Saryu Roy is also one of the intervenors in the case.
