Jamshedpur, Jan 24: A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured in an IED blast at the tribal-dominated Goelkera thana area of West Singhbhum district on Monday evening.

The blast which is considered to be an outcome of a subversive act of CPI-Maoist rebels meant against the police and paramilitary forces took place while the victim was negotiating a trail on foot to his home at Kutumba village in Goelkera, about 120 km away from here.

After the teenager was injured, the police rescued him and took him to Goelkera Community Health Centre to be referred to the Chaibasa Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

The boy has sustained grievous injuries throughout his legs and also in other parts of his body. The IED blast in Goelkera took place after a series of such blasts occurred at Tumbahaka, a forest stretch under the Tonto thana area in West Singhbhum district during the past fortnight, causing as many as 10 CRPF and CoBRA jawans to get injured.

According to police, Naxals belonging to the outlawed outfit CPI-Maoist have planted IEDs in the jungles under Tonto and Goelkera thana areas to prevent any anti-insurgency operation by the police and paramilitary forces into those forest stretches where several senior Naxal leaders are said to have taken shelter.
