Ranchi, Feb.9: A doctor knocked the door of Jharkhand High Court today seeking quashing of a murder case registered against him at the Deoghar Town police station.

After hearing in favour and against the petition, the court deferred hearing to February 16 and directed for no coercive action against the doctor till pendency of the case.

The case arose on June 7, 2021 after a 30-yr-old youth Sudip Kumar Singh died on way to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences from Stanford Hospital, where the youth underwent surgery of his gallbladder under the supervision of Dr Prashant Kumar Gupta.

Dr Gupta referred him to RIMS after Singh’s condition deteriorated after the operation.

Dr Gupta, filing a petition, pleaded innocence saying the matter is neither a case of medical negligence nor a case of murder thus the FIR registered in the matter should be quashed.

Contradicting the plea of Dr Gupta, the deceased’s father Kalyan Kumar Singh said it was a clear case of murder as the doctor took the decision of referring his patient after his condition deteriorated following the operation and the hospital made all the documents related to the patient disappear.
