Daltonganj, April 2: A prompt and swift hospitalization of 14 primitive vulnerable tribal girls, all inmates of the primary residential school hostel at Kutmu averted a mass health crisis in Latehar district.

A senior health official of the Sadar Hospital Latehar, Ved Prakash said that the 14 girl inmates had abdomen pain, cold, cough and fever and were rushed to the CHC Barwadeeh by ambulance on Saturday night where the medical officer in charge Ashish Ranjan got all the 14 girls admitted and their treatment started in full swing.

He added that the girls responded well to the treatment and it was a just-in-time medical intervention.

The medical officer in charge Ashish Ranjan said that the girls fell sick either due to the viral infection or due to some irregularities in the hostel food. He described their condition all normal after the treatment and they would be discharged on Sunday evening.

Project director of Integrated Tribal Development Agency, Latehar district B Tatma today reached the residential school hostel and interacted with the inmates there.

Tatma said the 14 girls had contracted viral infection from two girls who had returned from home last week to this hostel with cough and cold symptoms.

Warden of the hostel Renu Prakash Senapati said that the medical team examined their 30 inmates for Covid and malaria and all tested negative for these tests. She further said that they had to rush 14 inmates of this hostel to the CHC Barwadeeh for treatment as they had multiple health complaints.
