Prayagraj, April 17: Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed’s killers, three men, were moved from the barracks to the high-security cell of Naini (Prayagraj) Central Jail on Monday. The shootings occurred on the evening of April 15.
“All three shooters, Arun Maurya, Sunny Singh and Lovelesh Tiwari, are under threat of attack behind bars, owing to which they have been shifted to a high-security cell,” official sources said.
“The slain gangster Atiq Ahmed allegedly had a good network in the jail, and this prompted authorities to shift the trio to a high-security cell rather as they believed that keeping them with other prisoners could have been risky,” sources pointed out.
Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf Ahmad were killed on Saturday night in Prayagraj while being brought for a medical examination by guys acting as press personnel. Both gangsters were shot at about point-blank range before collapsing to the ground.
The district court on Sunday ordered the three shooters, Arun Maurya, Sunny Singh, and Lovelesh Tiwari, to remain in for 14 days in judicial custody.
Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were laid to rest on Sunday in a family graveyard in Prayagraj’s Kasari Masari area.
From a juvenile home, the minor sons of gangster Atiq Ahmed were brought to the cemetery.
Atiq Ahmed was charged with both the February 2017 murder of Umesh Pal and the 2005 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal.
