New Delhi, April 23: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat reacted angrily to the Delhi Police’s decision not to file an FIR against Brij Bhushan Sharan, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president. Back in January, Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik accused the president of abusing players sexually.

The wrestlers then staged a demonstration in New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. According to reports, the wrestlers plan to protest there once more and are unwilling to give up the fight.

Phogat wrote on Twitter, “Various female wrestlers who have brought laurels to this country in prestigious wrestling competitions have been sexually exploited and harassed by Brij Bhushan Singh, President, WFI. The Delhi Police is not even registering the FIR despite complaints on 21.04.2023.”

Vinesh Phogat, a gold medalist at the CWG (Commonwealth Games), claimed that the WFI president had harassed female wrestlers for a long time. As a result, the government established a commission that included Mary Kom and Yogeshwar Dutt to thoroughly investigate the situation.

The WFI president was eventually asked to resign while an inquiry was ongoing.

“As I came to know that wrestlers had started protesting in Delhi, I didn’t know what the allegation was about. I came to Delhi with a ticket,” Brij Bhushan Sharan said during that time.

“Regarding the allegation that Vinesh has made [of sexual exploitation], is there anyone coming forward with these allegations? Is there any athlete who’s come forward with these allegations & said the Fed prez has done some sort of sexual assault?” he said.

“It is alleged that the federation is acting like a dictator. Neither will you give trial, nor will you fight at the national level. The problem is when the federation makes the rules. These players, who are sitting on dharna today, not even a single one of them fought in the national,” Bhushan added.
