Dhanbad, June 26: The silence of Chancellor’s (Governor) Academic Advisor Dr. E Balagurusamy over burning issues during his Dumka visit poured cold water over the high hopes of Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) teachers.
Balagurusamy visited SKMU, Dumka on June 15, to attend a programme on the importance of the New Education Policy and returned back to Ranchi without sharing ideas with the teachers of universities/ colleges and hearing their problems.
“Since this was a maiden visit of Balagurusamy to Dumka University, we had high hopes he would hear about the crisis being faced by the university and its teachers. But unfortunately, neither he heard our problems nor spoke on it,” said a senior Professor of the Post Graduate (PG ) department.
Balagurusamy along with OSD Mukul Narayan reached the university at the scheduled time, addressed the gathering on NEP, and duly left for Ranchi. No delegation of teachers was allowed to meet and brief him about the problems that are a stumbling block in the implementation of NEP.
A senior teacher of Dumka College said that the SKMU acting Vice Chancellor, Dr Vimal Prasad Singh had made the protocol so tight that the Chancellor’s advisor did not meet teachers. “Balagurusamy is the former Vice-Chancellor of Chennai University and knows what is the problem in a university, colleges, and teachers. But he overlooked all that at SKMU. Under NEP several new subjects have been introduced without sanctioning the posts and appointment of teachers in that faculty. In such circumstances how the NEP would succeed,” said a senior professor of the university.
As per the college, the university has sanctioned around 800 teachers posts but it is crumbling with services of merely 250 teachers. In several subjects, single teachers attend classes in college and university alone. A senior professor holds classes in SSP College, Dumka, and PG department alone.
