Rampur, Sept 6: A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur against Udhayanidhi Stalin, a leader of the DMK, and Priyank Kharge, the son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The allegations pertain to causing offence to religious sentiments, as reported by the police on Wednesday.
They stated that Stalin was booked for calling for the eradication of Sanatan Dharma and Kharge for supporting him.
The two were booked on Tuesday at the Civil Lines Police Station in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, under sections 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feelings) and 153 A (promoting enmity between different religious groups) of the IPC.
The FIR was filed in response to a complaint filed by attorneys Harsh Gupta and Ram Singh Lodhi, who cited media reports about Stalin’s speech and said that the politician’s remarks had hurt their feelings.
During an event in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, Stalin made a comparison between Sanatan Dharma and diseases such as dengue and malaria.
Political parties reacted negatively to his remarks, with the BJP pressing the Congress to denounce them.
His remarks triggered a strong reaction from political parties, particularly the BJP, which called on the Congress to denounce his comments.
