New Delhi: In a significant shift in voter sentiment, the Congress is projected to take the lead over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana, securing 6 out of 10 Lok Sabha seats if elections were held today. This projection comes from the latest India Today Mood of the Nation (MOTN) survey, which reflects the political pulse of the region.
The survey suggests that the Congress, in alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), would surpass the BJP in seat count. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, both parties had secured 5 seats each in Haryana. However, the latest MOTN survey indicates that the Congress has gained ground, while the BJP has not been able to maintain its previous position.
In terms of vote share, the survey predicts a closely contested race between the INDIA bloc, which includes the Congress, and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The INDIA bloc is expected to capture 45.8% of the vote, slightly down from the 47.61% it garnered in the 2024 elections. The NDA’s vote share is projected at 44.2%, also reflecting a minor decline from its previous 46.11%.
The survey also highlights the continued struggle of other parties in Haryana, such as the AAP and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). Notably, the AAP had contested from Kurukshetra but was defeated by the BJP.
The Mood of the Nation poll, which analyses voter trends ahead of elections, was conducted just before the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections scheduled for October 1. Currently, the BJP holds 40 out of 90 assembly seats in the state, the Congress has 31, and Independents and Others occupy 19 seats.
The August 2024 edition of the Mood of the Nation survey, a bi-annual pan-India analysis, was carried out by CVoter between July 15, 2024, and August 10, 2024, providing valuable insights into the shifting political landscape in Haryana.
