New Delhi: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as per an official government notification released today.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) stated that Mr. Das’ tenure will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Key Appointments & Extensions

In addition to Shaktikanta Das’ appointment, the government has also extended the tenure of NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam by one year, effective February 24, 2025. Subrahmanyam, a 1987-batch retired IAS officer, was first appointed as NITI Aayog CEO for two years in February 2023.

Shaktikanta Das: A Veteran in Governance

Shaktikanta Das served as the RBI Governor from December 2018 to December 2024, steering the country’s monetary policies and financial stability. With four decades of experience in governance, he has held several key positions in both central and state governments, particularly in finance, taxation, industries, and infrastructure.

During his tenure at the RBI, he played a crucial role in guiding India’s economy through the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing conventional and unconventional monetary policies to ensure financial stability and growth.
