New Delhi: The Delhi government has announced that from April 1, 2025, vehicles older than 15 years will no longer be eligible for fuel at petrol pumps across the capital. This major step is part of a broader pollution control strategyaimed at curbing vehicular emissions.

Delhi’s environment minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, made the announcement after a high-level meeting on air pollution control measures. The discussion focused on key policies, including phasing out old vehicles, enforcing anti-smog measures, and transitioning to electric public transport.

🚦 No Fuel for Vehicles Over 15 Years

Sirsa revealed that the government is installing special gadgets at petrol stations that will detect vehicles exceeding the 15-year age limit. He emphasized, “We are installing gadgets at petrol pumps which will identify vehicles older than 15 years, and no fuel will be provided to them.”

The Delhi administration will formally notify the Union Ministry of Petroleum regarding this new rule.

🏢 Anti-Smog Equipment for Tall Buildings and Hotels

To further combat air pollution, Sirsa declared that all tall buildings, hotels, and business complexes in Delhi must install anti-smog devices to mitigate pollution levels.

🚍 Phasing Out Public CNG Buses by 2025

In a bid to promote cleaner public transport, the government has decided to withdraw 90% of public CNG buses by December 2025. These will be replaced by electric buses, marking a major transition towards eco-friendly urban mobility.

Delhi’s Battle Against Air Pollution

The move is part of Delhi’s comprehensive anti-pollution strategy to tackle rising air quality concerns. With vehicular emissions being a major contributor to pollution, the government is taking aggressive steps to enforce cleaner alternatives and stricter regulations.
