New Delhi: Popular folk singer and outspoken voice on social issues, Neha Singh Rathore, is once again making headlines for her bold statements. After the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Neha’s social media posts have sparked nationwide debate, while also landing her into legal trouble.
An FIR has been registered against Neha at the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow. She has been accused of making “anti-national statements” and “inciting communal tension” through her social media posts. The complaint was filed by poet Abhay Pratap Singh alias Abhay Singh ‘Nirbhik’, who alleged that Neha attempted to hurt national integrity with her tweets.
Following the registration of the FIR, Neha hit back at the BJP and the central government by releasing a video on her social media handle.
In her video, Neha said:
“I want to ask once again: Is questioning now considered treason? Today, the BJP’s IT cell is trending me as a ‘traitor’ on Twitter just because I dared to question the Prime Minister of the country.”
“If someone from Pakistan copies my video and circulates it, how am I responsible for that? Will trolls and godi media now decide who is a patriot and who is a traitor?” she added.
Neha further stated that in a country where asking questions was once seen as a sign of true patriotism, it has now become a reason to label someone a traitor.
“Those who divided the nation on religious lines are now distributing certificates of patriotism. Who gave them that right?” she asked.
Defending her patriotism, Neha highlighted her family’s contribution to national service.
“Fourteen members of my family have served in the Indian Army and paramilitary forces. My brother is currently fighting Naxals in Chhattisgarh. Four of my maternal uncles served as officers in the Army, two of whom fought in the Kargil war,” she said.
“Even today, my family stands guarding the nation’s borders. And these two-rupee trolls dare to call me a traitor? How do they have the guts?”
She lashed out at the government, asking:
“If you are so brave, why not question those who promised to eliminate terrorism in 10 years? What happened to the ‘56-inch chest’ when innocent lives were lost?”
Neha also questioned the BJP leadership, asking how many of their sons and daughters serve in the armed forces compared to her family.
“I declare clearly that India’s mainstream media is the real traitor, for never questioning the government and allowing it to act arbitrarily.”
In her sharp questions to the government, Neha asked:
Why was there no security for 2,000 tourists? Who is responsible for this negligence? Was it more important to hold rallies in Bihar right after a terror attack?
Neha concluded by accusing the BJP IT Cell of dividing the country along Hindu-Muslim lines and demanded real answers instead of being labeled a traitor.
