Patna: The political atmosphere in Bihar has heated up after derogatory comments were allegedly made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother. In protest, the NDA has announced a Bihar bandh on Wednesday, September 4, to be led primarily by BJP Mahila Morcha.
Bandh Timing and Scope
The bandh will be observed from 7 AM to 12 noon. BJP leaders clarified that while road demonstrations will be held across the state, railway and emergency services will remain unaffected. Women leaders and party workers are expected to play a central role in the protest.
Joint Announcement by NDA Leaders
In a joint press conference at the BJP state office, presidents of all NDA constituent parties condemned the remarks, calling them an attack on democratic values and social decency. They stressed that insulting a mother on a public platform was unacceptable in Indian culture and politics.
Sharp Reactions from NDA Leaders
-
Dilip Jaiswal (BJP State President): Called the remarks “highly condemnable,” stating that those who speak of respecting women have themselves resorted to disgraceful language.
-
Umesh Kushwaha (JDU President): Termed it not just a breach of political etiquette but also an insult to democracy, accusing Mahagathbandhan leaders of arrogance for not apologizing.
-
Raju Tiwari (LJP-R President): Alleged that insulting mothers has become a habit of opposition leaders, recalling similar remarks made earlier against Chirag Paswan’s mother.
-
Other NDA Allies: HAM chief Dr. Anil Kumar and Rashtriya Lok Morcha’s Madan Chaudhary described the comments as reflective of a “goondaraj mentality” and appealed to the public to ensure the bandh’s success.
