New Delhi: The scheduled visit of Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to Agra on Sunday has been cancelled, official sources confirmed. Authorities have not provided any specific reason for the sudden cancellation.
Taj Mahal Trip Called Off Amid Tight Security
Muttaqi was expected to leave Delhi around 8 am, travel via the Yamuna Expressway, and reach Shilpgram near the Taj Mahal’s eastern gate by 11 am. Plans included a guided tour of the monument in an electric golf cart, with the minister spending about 90 minutes at the site before returning to the capital in the afternoon. Agra authorities had put in place extensive security arrangements for the visit, with officials stating that “no lapses would be tolerated” during his stay.
Visit’s Diplomatic Context
The cancellation comes at a sensitive time in regional diplomacy, as both India and Afghanistan maintain strained ties with Pakistan over cross-border terrorism and related issues. Muttaqi’s visit to India was seen as significant against this geopolitical backdrop.
