Patna: Trouble continues to mount for JDU national president and Union Minister Lalan Singh, as the Patna district administration has now lodged an FIR against him following the Election Commission’s notice. The action comes after a viral video from Mokama showed the minister allegedly urging supporters to prevent an opposition leader from leaving his home on voting day.

FIR Registered After Video Verification

The Patna district administration posted a statement and video clip on its official X handle, confirming that the surveillance footage had been reviewed by the Video Monitoring Team. Based on the findings, an FIR has been registered against Lalan Singh alias Rajiv Ranjan Singh under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Representation of the People Act. Authorities have described the remarks as a violation of election conduct rules.

Controversial Remark Sparks Political Row

The controversy erupted after RJD released a video from Lalan Singh’s Mokama campaign, where he was allegedly heard saying that the opposition candidate should not be allowed to step out on polling day. He reportedly added that if the person “pleads too much,” he should be brought along to cast the vote.

The video triggered strong objections from the RJD, prompting the Election Commission to issue a notice to Lalan Singh, giving him 24 hours to respond. With the district administration now lodging an FIR, the matter has taken a serious legal turn.
