New Delhi: As Delhi continues to grapple with toxic air and ‘severe’ air quality levels, minister Parvesh Verma has admitted that pollution is a serious threat to public health while holding the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government responsible for years of inaction.

Blame on Previous AAP Government

Parvesh Verma said residents of the national capital are bearing the consequences of what he described as the AAP government’s failures in tackling air pollution. He alleged that former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s administration did not take concrete measures to control pollution and is now resorting to political theatrics instead of accountability.

GRAP-IV Measures Enforced Across Delhi

His remarks came as stringent restrictions under Stage-IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) were enforced in Delhi. From Thursday, non-Delhi private vehicles that do not meet BS-VI emission standards have been barred from entering the city. In addition, the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule has been strictly implemented at petrol pumps.

No Fuel Without Valid PUC Certificate

Fuel stations have stopped dispensing fuel to vehicles lacking valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. Enforcement is being carried out through automatic number plate recognition cameras, voice alerts at petrol pumps, and police support. Around 580 police personnel have been deployed at 126 checkpoints, including border points, to ensure compliance.

Exemptions and Enforcement on Ground

The restrictions do not apply to CNG and electric vehicles, public transport, or vehicles carrying essential commodities and services. However, vehicles transporting construction material have been barred from entering Delhi. Transport department teams have been stationed at petrol pumps and entry points to strengthen enforcement, with officials confirming the orders will remain in effect until further notice.
