Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a tough stand over alleged negligence by BJP legislators and workers in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, warning that laxity could cost MLAs their tickets in the next elections.

Strict Message To Party Leaders And MLAs

During a BJP workshop held in Lucknow on SIR, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made it clear that carelessness in voter list revision would have long-term political consequences. He cautioned that the impact of negligence could be felt for the next 20 years and bluntly stated that MLAs from constituencies where SIR is not conducted properly may be denied party tickets.

Workshop Focused On Electoral Preparedness

The workshop was attended by state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary, national general secretary and central in-charge Tarun Chugh, along with ministers, MLAs and party workers. Party leadership unanimously conveyed that failure to ensure accurate voter lists would directly affect electoral prospects and accountability would be fixed at the constituency level.

Close Margins And High-Risk Seats Highlighted

According to sources, Yogi Adityanath highlighted that many assembly seats were won or lost by margins of just four to five thousand votes. Even minor lapses in SIR could result in losing such seats. He shared constituency-wise data, stating that in areas like Lucknow Cantt, Lucknow North, Agra South, Milkipur, Hardoi and Lakhimpur, over 20 percent of voter names have already been deleted.

Clear Instructions To Re-Add Genuine Voters

The chief minister directed ministers, MLAs and booth-level workers to go door-to-door and ensure that names of genuine voters are re-added to the rolls. He stressed special attention to voters marked as absent or relocated and asked workers to remain vigilant against any attempts by the opposition to include fake names, urging them to file objections wherever necessary.

Warning On Traditional BJP Strongholds

Expressing concern over traditional BJP seats, Yogi noted that these areas have seen a disproportionately high number of voters marked as deceased or absent. He also pointed out that in several Muslim-dominated constituencies, comparatively fewer names were removed, calling for closer scrutiny.

Final Caution From The Chief Minister

Yogi Adityanath issued a stern warning, saying that if party leaders are unable to carry out this responsibility effectively, they should make it clear, as the party has no shortage of committed workers willing to step up.
