Bihar: JDU leader Anant Singh reached the Bihar Assembly from jail under heavy security arrangements and took oath as the MLA from Mokama, marking an unusual but legally permitted moment in state politics.

Oath Ceremony Held Amid Heavy Security

Before taking oath, Anant Singh touched the feet of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and sought his blessings. He was brought to the Assembly premises under strict police escort, with extensive security deployed inside and outside the House to prevent any untoward incident. Additional police forces were stationed as a precautionary measure.

Court Permission Enabled Assembly Appearance

Anant Singh was arrested on November 1, 2025, in connection with the Dular Chand Yadav murder case. Despite being in jail, he contested the assembly elections and won the Mokama seat for the fifth time. Since he was incarcerated, he could not take oath earlier. He later approached the Patna Civil Court seeking permission to attend the oath-taking ceremony. The MP-MLA court granted him permission, allowing him to take oath in the Assembly, with the condition that he be sent back to jail immediately after.

Background of the Murder Case

The case relates to the death of Dular Chand Yadav during the election campaign. Yadav was campaigning in support of Jan Suraj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi when clashes broke out between supporters of rival groups. The confrontation escalated into violence and firing, during which Yadav was injured and later died. While initial reports suggested death due to gunshot wounds, the postmortem revealed that the bullet injury was to the leg, and the actual cause of death was lung rupture and cardio-respiratory failure following severe internal injuries caused by blunt force trauma.
