Patna: Political tension has surfaced in Bihar after JD(U) state general secretary Amarendra Das began an indefinite hunger strike outside the Chief Minister’s residence, urging Nitish Kumar not to leave the state for a move to the Rajya Sabha.

Party Workers Protest Nitish Kumar’s Decision

The development comes after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Thursday that he would move to the Rajya Sabha. The announcement triggered strong reactions among Janata Dal (United) workers across the state. Several supporters expressed shock and anger, and incidents of protest and vandalism were reported at party offices.

Hunger Strike Outside CM Residence

On Friday, JD(U) state general secretary Amarendra Das sat on an indefinite hunger strike outside the Chief Minister’s residence carrying a banner appealing to Nitish Kumar not to shift to Delhi. Das said he would even sacrifice his life but would not allow the Chief Minister to leave Bihar.

Supporters Say Mandate Was In Nitish Kumar’s Name

Party workers gathered outside the JD(U) office also expressed dissatisfaction over the decision. Many supporters stated that in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections they had sought votes in the name of Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister. They insisted that the leader should listen to the sentiments of party workers and the public.

Supporters also said that the people of Bihar consider Nitish Kumar as part of their family and questioned how he could leave the state after receiving the mandate from the public.
