Ranchi: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has launched a sharp attack on the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic policies, questioning whether appeals to citizens to cut spending reflect the reality behind India’s claimed status as a global economic powerhouse.
JMM Questions the 5 Trillion Dollar Economy Claim
The party pointed out that citizens are currently being asked not to buy gold, save petrol and diesel, adopt work from home, reduce foreign travel, and avoid purchasing imported goods. JMM asked whether this is the model of a Vishwaguru and a 5 trillion dollar economy, arguing that a genuinely strong economy sees governments encouraging people to invest, trade, and consume more — not ask for sacrifice.
12 Years of BJP Rule Blamed for Economic Distress
JMM alleged that after 12 years in power, the BJP government has brought the country to a situation where people are being asked to reduce spending and cut back on their needs. The party said this is a clear sign that the economy is under serious pressure rather than thriving as claimed.
Rupee, Inflation and Unemployment Under Fire
The party alleged that the rupee continues to weaken, inflation is rising steadily, and unemployment has reached record levels. JMM also criticised the heavy taxation on petrol and diesel as a direct economic burden on ordinary citizens, and questioned the government’s concern over gold purchases, saying the Centre’s policies are directly hitting the pockets of common people.
