Patna: Students of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) took out a march to Lok Bhawan in Patna on Tuesday, raising slogans against the SIR and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Students Break Barricades, Scuffle with Police

The protesters set out from Gate No. 10 of Gandhi Maidan carrying banners and posters and repeatedly voiced their demands. A heavy police force had been deployed, and several intersections were closed. Roads near JP Golambar were barricaded to stop the students, but they broke through and moved towards Dak Bungalow. Police tried to halt them, leading to a scuffle, and several students were detained. As police were putting them in a vehicle, the students reportedly took the vehicle’s key and left the spot.

Administration Says Protests Allowed Only at Designated Site

The administration said sit-ins and demonstrations may be held only at the designated site in Gardanibagh, and that protests elsewhere in the city will not be permitted as they cause inconvenience to the public.

Mahagathbandhan Had Held Similar March Earlier

A few days ago, the Mahagathbandhan also held a Lok Bhawan march led by Tejashwi Yadav, who alleged that Gyanesh Kumar, the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister had harmed the country’s democracy through vote theft. The march demanded Kumar’s resignation, answers on the SIR and fresh elections in Bihar. Police had then detained Tejashwi Yadav, Mukesh Sahani and several other leaders.
