PM Modi to address UNGA today, focus likely to be on cross-border terrorism

New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York today. He can use this occasion to send a strong message against terrorism. Apart from that, the PM’s speech is anticipated to focus on global topics such as the corona pandemic, climate change, and other pressing concerns.

The theme of this year’s UNGA general discussion is ‘Building a Resilient Approach through Hope to Recover from COVID-19, Rebuild Sustainable, Responding to the Needs of the Planet, Respecting People’s Rights and Revitalizing the United Nations’ .The 76th high-level session of the UNGA began in New York on Tuesday. This year the United Nations General Assembly is being held in a hybrid format, but a large number of leaders have arrived in New York.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had said that Prime Minister Modi will speak on various important issues including cross-border terrorism, the regional situation and reforms of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Regarding India’s permanent membership in the UNSC, Shringla said that PM Modi will emphasize on reforms in the UNSC during his address.

“India’s Amrit Mahotsav and the 75th anniversary of the United Nations coincide. On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi will speak on UN reforms during his address, why it is needed and how it can be achieved”, he added.
